A Mercedes-Benz SL 65 AMG Black Series vehicle was recently used to set a new land speed record that will be entered into the Guinness World Records.

Hein Wagner reached 200 miles per hour in the Mercedes-Benz vehicle, setting a new best for a blind driver.

The South African motivational speaker was accompanied by navigator Ray Wakefield as he broke the record on the runway at Upington International Airport.

Wagner, who has been blind from birth, retained this top speed for over half a mile along the straight and described the speed as a worthy achievement for any driver.

He hopes that holding the record will help bring funding to his Vision Trust organisation, which has the aim of making technology more accessible to the blind.

The Mercedes-Benz SL 65 AMG Black Series comes equipped with a 6.0-litre supercharged V12 biturbo engine that can accelerate from still to 62 miles per hour in 4.2 seconds.

According to Mercedes-Benz, "the limited-slip rear axle differential transfers power directly to the road without compromise, making the SL 65 AMG one of the highest-performing sports cars in the roadster category".
